Buddy and the Domain: Gifts That Keep on Giving

Leoragardner.com is born. And it all started with two Christmas presents: a domain name and a bird named Buddy.

Jeff Caylor and I decided that we were only allowed to spend $10 on presents for one another. (You’ll learn more about Jeff later…) I broke the rules, spent around $45 and bought him a blue bird named Buddy. Why a blue bird? I was under the misguided impression that all lives could be improved with the melodic 5am wakeup calls of a blue parakeet. I have been pegged as an idealist (and an eccentric) in the past, and true to my pegging, I envisioned beautiful mornings for Jeff and Buddy… Sun peaking through the blinds, Buddy taking on the characteristics of a parrot and learning to say, “Good morning Jeff. I trust your night was peaceful,” and the two of them (man and bird) quietly reflecting on inevitably beautiful sunrises.

Jeff did not break the rules, and instead dreamed up the idea of creating a website for me that would serve as the storehouse for all my artistic blunders. He bought the domain name leoragardner.com, which cost him just under the price mark.

Almost a year has gone by and it seems that each present, Jeff’s gift of a website and my gift of Buddy, are truly gifts that just keep on giving. And giving. A n d . G i v i n g.

Despite his best efforts to train Buddy to perform dance routines on command, not use his water well as a toilet, and say at least something besides “$&^*&^%!#^%” at 5am, Jeff threw up his hands after five months and has since resorted to sticking Buddy in the basement when company is over or he wants to sleep in.

As for leoragardner.com, we’ve spent months working on the site and getting everything ready to launch. Jeff was the real mastermind behind the project. I tried to teach Buddy the “electric slide.”

I’m still fleshing out the details, but I hope you (viewer) enjoy looking through the different art projects, music projects and regularly check out my blog. Sky’s the limit…
